How to Play Mining and Dwarves

Rocks versus the orb, the deposit bar, gold versus shards, dwarf jobs, and why the floor clogs.

How to Play the Loop

Mining and Dwarves looks like a clicker because you point at rocks, but the real game is a cycle with two targets, two currencies, and a crew that can either clear the floor or bury it. Sockhouse Studios built a persistent incremental: no prestige wipe, no multiplayer session, just a mine that gets louder as you hire. If you have not hired anyone yet, start with the getting started hour. This page is the loop you will still be running after that hour.

The cycle in one sentence

Click rocks, or let Auto Click rest on them, until they drop ore. Let dwarves haul those drops into the central black hole deposit. Watch the bar fill. Mine the special orb that appears. Watch the rock field return and do it again. Gold arrives from depositing. Void shards arrive when that cycle pays out hard enough to open the skill tree. Abilities only speed the same loop; they do not replace it. The abilities guide is the hotbar. This page is the clock those keys are trying to turn.

Rocks versus the special orb

Rocks are the everyday targets. They sit around the deposit, take a few hits, and throw drops onto the floor. Rocks exist to feed the deposit bar.

When the bar fills, a special orb or ball appears. Mine it. The orb is not a boss you fail; it is a dense target that converts a filled cycle into gold, shards, and a reset of the rock field. Steam reviewers who say to use Multi Ore on the orb are pointing at this window. If you dump Multi Ore into a leftover pebble while the orb is up, you spent the burst on the wrong object. Rocks are the commute and the orb is the payday.

The deposit bar

The central sink is a black hole style deposit. Ore that reaches it fills a bar. That bar is the cycle clock. Two things stall it. Rocks that never break are a miner and player damage problem. Drops that never arrive are a collector and pathing problem. If collectors are late, click a few drops yourself, then go back to breaking rocks. If miners are idle because nothing is left to hit, you over collected and under damaged. Rebalance. Check the dwarf tier list if the mix is wrong. Filling the bar is the cue to hover the orb, spend the active buttons, then let rocks return.

Gold versus void shards

Gold is the depositing currency. Chunks that reach the sink pay gold. Void shards are the skill tree currency. Mixing them up is how players stall. Because there is no prestige, both wallets persist, so a gold dump into a dead end worker node is still there tomorrow. Spend gold on throughput you can see: more haul, faster walk, enough miners that rocks die before the orb window. Spend shards on the tree path you can explain. The walkthrough is the longer route through those spends.

Dwarf jobs on the floor

Dwarf Miners damage rocks. Dwarf Collectors haul ore to the deposit. Steam reviews also name a Demolition Dwarf in the full game. The full roster is five types. The remaining two are additional specialists; this wiki will not invent names.

Jobs collide. Miners who outrun collectors create clutter. Collectors who outrun miners starve the bar. If a new specialist does not help rocks die or ore arrive, it is a later tree toy, not a loop fix. The loop test is simple: after thirty seconds, are drops moving, and is the bar climbing? You can idle. Hired dwarves keep working if you step away. AFK still progresses, which reviews praise honestly, but active play is faster on the orb. Compare styles on idle versus active once the crew exists.

Why the screen gets cluttered

Clutter is the loop overproducing faster than the crew can drain. Rocks drop faster than collectors walk. Dwarves are hard to tell apart, a real review complaint, so you cannot see which job is late. Pies, gems, lasers, and the orb all want the same cursor. If ore carpets the floor, you need haul or Ore Vacuum, not another miner. If the floor is empty and the bar is frozen, you need damage, not another collector. If you cannot read the dwarves, hire fewer until move speed and carry limit make the existing pair obvious. Late game slog, another review knock, starts when you buy spawn nodes and skip drain. Do not let the juicy pops talk you into a jammed floor.

How the cycle repeats

After the orb dies, rocks return. That is the loop, not a new biome. You are running a denser version of the same commute: more rock health, more drop volume, more workers, same sink. Park collectors near the deposit before the orb burst so the payday is hauled. Save Multi Ore and Super Auto Miner for that window, not the first pebble of a new field. Auto Click exists for the commute; Manual Click can still win the orb. When the loop feels solved, the walkthrough is the longer spend plan. The getting started page remains the right reset if you hired the wrong first pair. The loop itself does not get a second version. It just gets louder.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is the special orb for?

The orb is the payday after the deposit bar fills. Mine it, ideally with Multi Ore, then let the rock field return. Details of the burst window sit in the abilities guide.

Is gold the same as void shards?

No. Gold comes from depositing ore. Void shards buy the skill tree. Spend them as separate wallets, which the getting started page treats as a first-hour rule.

Why is my screen full of ore and dwarves?

You are producing faster than you are hauling, or you hired a crowd you cannot read. Thin collectors versus miners until the bar climbs. Role mix is easier to judge from the dwarf tier list.

Do I have to click for the whole session?

No. Hired dwarves keep working if you AFK. Active play is faster, especially on the orb. Compare both in idle versus active.

Is there a prestige reset I am missing?

No. Progression is persistent. There is no prestige layer, which is why a jammed crew stays jammed until you fix the mix. The longer spend order is the walkthrough.

What do miners and collectors actually do?

Miners damage rocks. Collectors haul ore into the central deposit. A mixed pair is the loop; stacking one job is how the bar stalls.
