Dwarf Types Tier List

This is a launch-week ranking of dwarf types in Mining and Dwarves, not a finished esports list. Sockhouse Studios shipped five types in the 27 August 2026 Steam build. The June demo only let you hire Miner and Collector. We rank those two plus Demolition Dwarf, which Steam reviews already treat as a real later identity, and Foreman as a mid hire after a mixed pair. Foreman is still TBD against Miner and Collector for early S-tier. The unpublished fifth type stays in TBD. Inventing S-tier names would make a prettier table and a worse wiki.

Letter grades here measure the loop, not lore. Rocks have to shatter, ore has to reach the central deposit, and the orb has to pop. A dwarf that only looks busy is not high. For kit text instead of grades, use miners and collectors and specialists. For spend order after you hire, use skill paths.

Collector — A, first quality-of-life spike

Collector is the dwarf that makes the game feel like an incremental instead of a clicker. Every shatter drops ore on the floor. Floor ore does nothing until a collector hauls it into the sink. The first collector is often the moment the deposit bar starts moving while you are still clicking, and carry-limit nodes multiply that spike immediately.

That does not mean you should hire twelve collectors and zero miners. Collectors cannot break the rocks they are waiting on. Early on, one or two collectors plus a miner is the usual mixed pair. If ore is piling into a carpet and the bar is idle, you are collector-starved. If the floor is clean and rocks sit at full health, you hired too many haulers.

Collectors also age well because haul speed and carry keep paying after your own click damage falls behind the crew. Idle sessions lean on them harder than active ones. They are A because they unlock the loop.

Miner — A, damage scaler

Miner is the rock-damage dwarf. The demo and the full game both start you here for a reason: nothing else happens until stones shatter. Extra miners, miner damage nodes, and your own clicks all feed the same pile of drops. Miners scale the shatter rate; they do not scale the deposit by themselves.

A miner-only floor looks productive and pays slowly. Drops sit, the sink starves, and the orb never spawns. That is the most common first-hour mistake, and it is why Miner is A beside Collector rather than a lonely S. Read miners and collectors before you dump every shard into one more pickaxe.

Later, miner count is how you keep up when rock health climbs. Player clicks still help, especially with Super Auto Miner hovering a cluster, but the crew is what keeps the floor alive when you look at the tree. Miner is the scaler. Collector is the converter. You want both.

Foreman — mid hire, not early S

Foreman is the nearby-worker booster. Playtests show a recruit that buffs workers inside an aura: worker speed, worker damage, aura radius. That is a mid hire, not a first-hour S. Collector still unlocks the loop. Miner still scales shatter. A Foreman with nobody to buff is a walking circle.

Hire him after a mixed pair is working and carry is not the bottleneck. Do not skip collectors for an aura. Do not put him in early S beside Miner and Collector until that aura is documented against a real hour-one crew. Kit writeup: Foreman.

Demolition Dwarf — B, later identity

Demolition Dwarf is confirmed in Steam reviews and is not a first-hour hire. Treat the rank as flavor plus a later identity, not as a fake S. Launch-week documentation on the exact kit is thin, which is already a reason not to overrank it. If demolition is your plan, it is a mid-to-late recruit after the miner-collector loop is stable, not a replacement for haul.

B means useful once the mine is busy, not bad. A demolition dwarf that adds burst on dense rocks can matter when player clicks are no longer enough. It does not replace Collector, and it does not make the two unnamed specialists exist. Until Sockhouse publishes a clean kit, this wiki will not pretend we timed its cooldown.

For the specialist writeup as facts land, use specialists. Do not wait on that page to hire your first collector.

Remaining specialists — TBD, not fake S

The full game has five dwarf types. Four names are confirmed: Miner, Collector, Demolition Dwarf, Foreman. The fifth is a specialist of some kind. It is not a Fire Dwarf, a Gem Dwarf, or any other name this page could mint for the sake of a complete table. TBD is the honest rank.

If a stream overlay or a rival list shows five named S-tiers this week, it is guessing. Wait for an in-game tooltip, a patch note, or a store-page update. When those names land, this list will move them out of TBD. Until then, spend shards on the loop you can see.

Crew mix during launch week

Hire a collector as soon as the floor is dirty. Hire miners whenever shatter rate is the bottleneck. Hire a Foreman after that mixed pair is working. Leave demolition later. Leave the unpublished fifth alone in your head. That mix matches the skill path advice: worker speed and carry beat a third copy of a dwarf you cannot feed.

Reviews that call the game linear are talking about this structure. You are staffing one mine, not picking a faction. If that feels like a hallway, the ranking will not save it — it will only stop you from making the hallway longer.

Ability ranks sit on the abilities tier list. Hover Q on rocks your miners already softened, dump W on the orb, and let collectors finish the bar.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Who should I hire first?

A mixed pair. Collector is the first quality-of-life spike; Miner keeps rocks breaking. Details are on miners and collectors.

Is Demolition Dwarf S-tier?

No. It is a later identity confirmed in Steam reviews, ranked B until the kit is documented. Do not skip collectors for it.

What is the fifth dwarf type called?

Unpublished. Four names are confirmed: Miner, Collector, Demolition Dwarf, Foreman. Track the gap on specialists when the tooltip lands.

Should I only hire miners for damage?

No. Miner-only floors leave ore on the ground and starve the deposit. Shatter rate without haul does not spawn the orb.

Does the June demo ranking still apply?

For Miner and Collector, yes. The demo never showed the other three types. Retail added Foreman, demolition, and the unpublished fifth; those are full-game questions.

Where should I spend shards after hiring?

Follow skill paths for speed, carry, and cooldown before extra copies of one role.
