Mining and Dwarves on Steam Deck

Launch-week news, Linux store row, Auto Click, and why Unknown is not the same as Verified.

Steam Deck Notes

On launch day, 27 August 2026, Sockhouse Studios posted Steam Deck Compatibility to the Steam news feed for Mining and Dwarves (app 3987230). The opening is blunt: they were still waiting on Steam to verify the game for Deck, and they wanted people to know what to expect if they tried it anyway.

This page is that handheld note, not a fake Verified badge. The 27 August snapshot around the post lives on launch week. Hardware numbers copied from the store live on system requirements. How the mouse and the two click modes actually work lives on controls. The compact bind list is the controls cheatsheet.

Until Valve’s compatibility badge flips, treat Deck as developer-tested, not Verified. Steam’s store row at launch still read Unknown. Unknown is not Playable. Unknown is not Unsupported. It is a Valve process that had not finished.

What the launch-week news actually said

The public news feed for app 3987230 around launch is short: the 10k-wishlist post on 26 August, and Steam Deck Compatibility on 27 August. There was no numbered patch list hiding a Deck hotfix.

Sockhouse’s Deck post is a wait-and-try note. They had not received Steam’s verification yet. They still wanted handheld owners to know the game was worth attempting. This wiki will not invent extra paragraphs Steam truncated in the store teaser. If the live news post adds a later sentence, that post wins.

What the Linux store row lists

Independent of the news post, the SteamOS + Linux minimums on the store are written as a Deck listing:

  • OS: SteamOS 3.6.19
  • Processor: Steam Deck APU or equivalent
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Steam Deck APU or equivalent
  • Storage: 500 MB available space
  • Additional notes: tested on Steam Deck OLED 1TB

That 500 MB line matches the macOS tab, not the Windows tab (which lists 500 GB). This page will not silently “correct” either figure. Check the download size Steam actually reports in your client. The OLED 1TB line is the QA sentence. It is not a requirement that you own the 1TB SKU; it is the machine Sockhouse tested.

If you run desktop Linux rather than SteamOS, “Steam Deck APU or equivalent” is still the listed CPU and GPU line. There is no separate Ubuntu table. Specs stay copied on system requirements.

Auto Click is the practical Deck mode

Mining and Dwarves is mouse-first. There is no movement stick and no twin-stick fallback. On Deck, the trackpads and the right stick move an on-screen cursor. That is enough, if you pick the click mode the first-run prompt already recommends for handhelds.

Auto Click fires while the cursor sits on a rock. You are not mashing the trackpad for twenty minutes. Manual Click is the higher-effort challenge option. It is not a loot flag. On a Deck, Manual is how you make a cozy incremental feel like work.

Keep Auto Click if you:

  • play in handheld,
  • use a laptop trackpad,
  • want to hover Super Auto Miner without mashing,
  • plan to put the Deck down after a mixed crew exists.

You still click UI either way: skill nodes, settings, pies on the floor. Super Auto Miner (Q) still auto-clicks under the cursor. Park over a cluster, press Q, hold still. Multi Ore (W) still belongs on the special orb. Full bind jobs: controls and the cheatsheet. Steam lists mouse-only play, play at your own pace, and playable without timed input. You can leave hired dwarves running, then come back for the orb.

Developer-tested is not a badge

Three claims can sit on the same store page without being the same fact:

  1. Sockhouse tested on a Steam Deck OLED 1TB (Linux additional notes).
  2. Sockhouse posted that they were still waiting on Steam to verify (27 August news).
  3. Valve’s compatibility badge still read Unknown at launch week.

(1) is developer QA. (2) is the studio telling you the Valve review was unfinished. (3) is the badge players actually see. Do not screenshot this wiki as “Steam Deck Verified.” Do not screenshot it as “Unsupported.” Try it if you own a Deck. Use Auto Click. Confirm Steam Cloud is on if you bounce between PC and handheld.

What not to assume

Do not assume a community layout is official. Do not assume gyro flicks help; rocks are large and hover is enough. Do not stack a third-party auto-clicker on Auto Click. Do not treat the Windows 500 GB storage line as a Deck problem; Linux lists 500 MB. There is no prestige wipe to “fix” a bad handheld session.

After launch week, the only Deck fact still in motion is Valve’s badge. Track the live Steam news post. Until then: developer-tested, Auto Click, OLED 1TB QA, 16 GB RAM on the Linux row, 500 MB storage, still waiting on Steam. Start with controls, keep the cheatsheet beside the Deck, read launch week, and copy hardware from system requirements.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Is Mining and Dwarves Steam Deck Verified?

Not at launch. Sockhouse posted on 27 August 2026 that they were still waiting on Steam. Treat it as developer-tested, not Verified. Launch snapshot: launch week.

What Deck hardware does the store list?

SteamOS 3.6.19, Steam Deck APU, 16 GB RAM, 500 MB storage, tested on Steam Deck OLED 1TB. Copied listing: system requirements.

Which click mode should I use on Deck?

Auto Click. It fires while the cursor sits on a rock. Manual Click is a higher-effort option, not extra loot. Binds: controls.
